The Australian Government has recently announced a change to the Import Processing Charge (IPC) as part of the 2015-16 Commonwealth Budget.
The changes are effective from the 1st of January 2016 and see a standardization of the fees for all cargo channels (Air/Post and Sea) to $50 for consignments with a value between $1,000 and $10,000 and $152 for consignments with a value over $10,000. The fee for consignments with a value less than $1,000 will remain at NIL.
Whilst the import processing charge for consignments arriving by sea effectively remains the same and increase of approximately 25% to the current charge will apply to consignments arriving by air or post.
